WESTPORT TRAVEL SOCCER for U8-U19 BOYS & GIRLS

Our Travel program is a competitive, ability-based, 3-season program (fall/winter/spring) that requires tryouts (typically held in the spring/May prior to the subsequent fall season). Participating in the CT Junior Soccer Association (CJSA) league, our U8-U19 teams compete against surrounding southwest district CT towns. Fall and spring seasons include weekly practices on Wed/Fri, Sunday games and seasonal tournaments including our annual Westport WIN tournament in March. U16-U19 teams play in spring only. U8-U13 Travel teams have professional coaches from Mickey Kydes Soccer and U14/15 teams have Staples High School soccer coaches providing years of experience and exceptional team guidance. Parents are encouraged to volunteer as team manager or assistant coach depending on the needs of the head coach. All adult volunteers and coaches must complete state and town requirements before stepping on the field.

7v7 (U8-U10) Build Out Line Explained

Build Out Line for U9 & U10 (7v7)

On a goal kick, a defensive free kick inside the penalty area, or when the goalkeeper has possession of the ball with their hands, the opposing team must move behind the build-out line until the ball is put back into play.
The goalkeeper can pass, throw, or roll the ball to put it back into play (punts and drop kicks are not allowed).
On a goal kick, a defensive free kick inside the penalty area, or when the goalkeeper has possession of the ball with their hands, the opposing team may cross the build-out line when:
- The goalkeeper changes possession from their hand to play the ball with their feet, or
- a second touch is made by another player on the goalkeeper’s team, or
- the ball comes to a complete stop, or
- the ball crosses the buildout line.

A reminder that FIFA Law #4 is fully enforced by referees and coaches for player safety:

A player must not use equipment or wear anything that is dangerous.

All items of jewelry (necklaces, rings, bracelets, earrings, leather bands, rubber bands, etc.)

If a player does not comply with this rule, he/she must sit out of play.
