YELLOWSHIRT (TRAVEL) REFEREE PROGRAM
If you would like to officiate youth travel games, you need to be a USSF certified "Yellowshirt" referee. Please read below for more details.
Any questions? Please contact WSA Referee Assignor: Kathleen Galley, firstname.lastname@example.org
WSA Referee Co-Directors: Robby Casey, Robert.email@example.com & Wes Malowitz, firstname.lastname@example.org
All referees affiliated with FIFA have a designated referee grade. Most referees begin their career as USSF Grade 8, entry level, (grade refers to referee level, not school grade) which allows them to officiate youth travel games. After more experience and testing, referees can move "up" to higher grade levels 7, 6, 5 etc. The grade indicates the qualification of the referee to officiate at various levels of local, national and international soccer competition. There is a common misconception that these grades are related to elementary or secondary school grades - they are not, they are assigned by USSF. For more information on USSF referee grades go to: www.usyouthsoccer.org/referees/gradesexplained
HOW TO BECOME A CERTIFIED USSF GRADE 8 (YELLOWSHIRT) REFEREE (earning a 2017 badge):
Age Requirement: candidate must be 13 years old by June 30th of 2017 for a 2017 badge.
Entry level grade 8 (refers to referee level, NOT school grade) Yellowshirt testing is currently: OPEN until March 18th, 2017
TO REGISTER go to the CT State Referee Program (CSRP) website: www.ctreferee.net
The entry level program consists of an online course and test, and an In-Class and Field session. All testing and sessions are posted on the CSRP site: www.ctreferee.net homepage and Event Calendar. Spring testing/sessions run from Jan - March. Fall testing/sessions run from Aug - Nov. Completing the spring program allows a referee to officiate through 2017 calendar year. Completing the fall program allows the referee to officiate the remainder of 2016 thru 2017. Cost for the entire certification program is $93.95 plus uniform fees (approx $80).
ANNUAL RE-CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR YELLOWSHIRTS:
Yellowshirt referees are expected to re-certify each year. Please note a new "In-Service" training has been added prior to the testing (see below)**
Re-certification for 2017 is currently CLOSED on the CT State Referee site: www.ctreferee.net.
DO NOT LET YOUR CERTIFICATION LAPSE! If you do not re-certify, you will need to go through the entire entry level certification process again and pay the fee of $93.95. If you do not re-certify, you will not be able to work travel games in 2017.
For re-certification info go to: www.ctreferee.net
**For 2017 a new “In Service” training requirement has been added to the Referee Re-certification Process. If a Referee does not attend an “In Service” clinic before the start of the Re-certification Process there will be additional online components to complete during the Re-certification Process.
There is incentive to re-certify early for all grade levels: If you re-certify in August, you will save $10.00 off the normal re-certification charge. If you re-certify in September & October, there is no discount. If you re-certify in Nov/Dec, you will be charged an additional $20.00. Again, please go to www.ctreferee.net to follow directions for re-certification.
